An amazing project that helps schoolchildren learn about different parts of the world, through theatre and a broadband connection
WebPlay is a web enabled theatrical experience that encourages improved communication and understanding between schoolchildren living in contrasting areas.
For many of these children, WebPlay is their first introduction to the internet and the project develops their skills in using the net as a means of communication. The children learn to build their own web pages, write about their lives and describe where they live, all within the safety of a secure, educational platform.
The project is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils and focuses on the English, literacy, ICT and drama aspects of the National Curriculum. It is divided into four phases, each with clear objectives.
WebPlay first launched in the UK in November 2003 and received excellent feedback from those who took part. Independent evaluations have concluded that taking part in Webplay is a highlight of a child's primary education.
Culture Online has extended its support for the project to enable it to build on its success, and deliver an expanded programme on a self-sustaining basis.
