Unlock the magic of theatre with this stunning behind-the-scenes interactive resource
Stagework goes behind the scenes to explore the complex process of making theatre.
The site offers a stimulating broadband resource for teachers and learners in a range of curriculum subjects. Stagework enhances the understanding of theatre as one of the creative industries and opens up new career opportunities to young people, providing information on careers in the theatre and the creative industries from top industry insiders for example in the fields of lighting, costume, props, sound and stage design.
Theatrical productions covered include Philip Pullman's epic, His Dark Materials. With video footage, photos, designs and diaries, as well as interviews with leading actors, and members of the creative and technical teams, visitors to the website can follow the evolution of the production from rehearsal right through to live performance. Other productions explored on the site include Coram Boy, Richard III, Henry V, The Crucible, and The UN Inspector, a modern adaptation by David Farr from the play by Russian dramatist Nikolai Gogol.
The project is led by the National Theatre and involves regional theatres: Bristol Old Vic and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Illumina Digital are behind taking the theatrical content and turning it into a rich digital interactive experience.
Stagework has won numerous awards including a UN World Summit in the e-learning category (2005), two BAFTAs (2005) and an AOP award for Design. The project also won a BETT award (2006) in the English Key Stage 3&4 category.
