Video podcast first for UK museum

Every Object Tells A Story, the innovative, interactive project that invites people to tell stories about objects that they treasure, has launched the first video podcast by a UK museum.

Having previously announced the first audio podcast by the UK museum sector in October 2005 (and attracting more than 3000 downloads in the first month), the video podcast presents the results of a short film competition, sponsored by Micro Anvika, which asked filmmakers to create a 30-second film about the Every Object storytelling project.

Judges, including onedotzero director Shane Walter and Channel Four animator Jamie Johnson, whittled down the entries to name Nicola Clark the winner. Nicola, from Northbrook College in Sussex, produced Orange Hat, an enchanting animation that follows the misadventures of a woolly hat as it is passed from head to head over the years.

Susan McFarland, editor of www.everyobject.net, said, "Every Object is an online project that collects stories about things that people value. The collection can be quite quirky and includes some really unusual objects."

"We were looking for a short film that could reflect the breadth of the project and its quirky sense of humour. This film succeeds on both counts."

"Video and audio podcasts are a really innovative way in which museums can reach out to different audiences," explained David Anderson, the V&A's Director of Learning & Interpretation. "They bring the collections to people's doorsteps."

Every Object Tells A Story is funded by Culture Online and is delivered by a partnership of the V&A, Channel 4 and Ultralab. To learn more visit www.everyobject.net/interactive. To view the video podcasts directly visit iTunes.
